Simplistic Marketing

Does such a thing even exist?

I want to tell you it does.

Last night I was taking a break from writing, and I turned around to my bookshelf, and a book hadn’t yet read caught my eye. I opened it, and read these words…

“Most small-business advertising and marketing stinks. Monstrous sums are wasted, and opportunities lot. Today, businesspeople are really, really, really confused and overwhelmed and hollered at; told that they must do this, that, the other thing, more and moreβ€”just to get the same results. Or less.” The author promised to mute the noise. The man who wrote these words is Dan Kennedy. He went on to promise, “to guide you to clarity, about a relatively short list of fundamental principles and strategies that can prevent your being lost in a deep, dense forest of media demanding your attention, time, and money.”

I don’t think I can frame this concept better than he has.

He tells us, “Everything you see big business doing is wrong for you.” He continues, “If you study them at all, you must time-travel to examine what they did in their journey from start to small and ultimately to big, not what they do now.”

This is true for all of the marketers and real estate coaches out there right now.

The book I am pulling all these words from is No B.S. Direct Marketing. It is brand new to me, although it has probably sat on my shelf since 2016.

I am only 4 chapters deep, but there is so much sound advice that I want to share with you. Dan warns, “Be careful who you study. If their purpose, objectives, agenda, and reasons for doing what they do the way they do it don’t match up with your purpose, objectives, or agenda, then you should NOT study or emulate or copy them!” This rings so true to the Bernie Madoff (real estate) coaches right now who are teaching you how to make money in real estate with Instagram, while they are only pushing how to make money with real estate with Instagram.

Dan and I (lol) beg you to, “Find somebody who is successful, who shares your purpose, objectives, and agenda, and pay great attention to what he does and how he does it.”

And if you are a real estate agent, I am begging you to follow me in my brand new course for real estate agents. But more on that later.

I know Dan will hunt me down if I quote his whole book, but this book is gold, for anyone, anywhere, in any industry, so I really hope you grab a copy. You will want to read on pages 7 and 8 about “marketing incest”. It’s so good.

So, to the topic at hand: How can one market simplistically?

You do it from your heart. You document over create. You do it with a give give give philosophy, and you do it with honesty, integrity, and authenticity.

But step by step and all technical, what does this look like? You need to give the people what they want.

  1. Define your dream client.
  2. Figure out what your dream client wants. (What are they looking for online? What questions are they asking?)
  3. Create content that provides the answers.
  4. Syndicate that content everywhere.
  5. Keep doing it.
  6. Do it better than anyone else in your market.
  7. More is better.
  8. Don’t stop.
  9. Don’t give up.
  10. Be patient.
