Day 6 of 30 Freebies: Today’s freebie: 5 Beautiful Pinterest and Instagram Story Templates – Link
Hi sweet friend, If you are reading this, I am guessing there is something in your heart. Maybe this urge to do something specific or maybe just a general urge to do something “more” or “different”.
I have had this feeling before.
I spent my 20s graduating college, getting married, and having three children. I also spent my 20s trying to create a business. I dabbled in photography, sold jewelry, and had a little tiny marketing company.
I don’t think I was trying to find myself, but instead, I think I was trying to find my place in the world. Becoming and being a mother was very rewarding, but the marriage I was in, was not. I am happy to report that I found my current career, I am happily remarried, and we have six children together (two were my daughters Scarlett & Juliette, and my husband came with two daughters and a son, then we had our son Lincoln.)
Today I want to share with you how to take your idea and turn it into a business.
I don’t know what kind of business lays in your heart, and maybe you don’t know yet either, but let’s work on that idea of yours. Below I am sharing 5 exercises with you that can help develop your idea. (Step 1, Develop your idea.) I want you to pick the one or two that speak to you, and give it a try. They will all work differently depending on what stage your idea is in.
1. Mind Mapping:
- Purpose:
Mind Mapping is a visual way of representing an idea, allowing for the organization and analysis of the concept. It aids in visually organizing information, helping to see the bigger picture. - Process:
Start with your main idea in the center and branch out with related thoughts, ideas, and actions. Use different colors, images, and words to represent different parts of the idea and their relationships.
2. Brain Dumping:
- Purpose:
Brain Dumping is the process of quickly transferring all the ideas in your head onto paper without worrying about the organization, structure, or feasibility. It helps in freeing the mind, allowing for more in-depth focus and clarity on each idea individually. - Process:
Set aside specific time and let all your thoughts about the idea flow on paper, without any filtering or organizing. Afterward, review and categorize the dumped ideas.
3. SWOT Analysis:
- Purpose:
SWOT Analysis helps in evaluating the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats related to your idea, which can impact its development and success. - Process:
Detail the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of your idea, optimizing strengths and opportunities while addressing weaknesses and threats.
4. Idea Incubation:
- Purpose:
This allows the idea to mature and refine by providing the necessary time and environment, leading to a more developed and resilient concept. - Process:
Allow the idea to “sit” while letting subconscious processes refine it, and periodically revisit and adjust the idea based on new insights and feedback.
5. Feedback Loops:
- Purpose:
This involves continuous feedback on your idea from various sources, allowing for ongoing refinement and adjustment based on this external input. - Process:
Present your idea to a selected group, encourage honest feedback, and modify your idea iteratively based on the insights received.
// Another option is to hire a new business coach. This can cost anywhere between $2000 to $7000 for a 3-12 month working relationship. At Jo & Coaching, we offer group coaching for just $20 a week. You can learn more about it here.
So what is the next step after a powerful brainstorming session? Probably a nap. Lol. But seriously, the right mindset and the support of your family (or a mentor) are going to be the next two things you need to obtain. (Step 2, Seek a growth mindset.) To learn more about the type of mindset you need, continue reading…
Growth Mindset: What it is, and how to achieve it…
For you to achieve massive growth and business success, cultivating a growth mindset is crucial. A growth mindset will allow you to embrace challenges, persevere through difficulties, and see effort as a pathway to mastery. It’s about learning, adapting, and leveraging every experience to become more resilient and capable.
1. Embrace a Growth Mindset:
- Summary // How to Achieve:
- Educate Yourself Continuously: Adopt a lifelong learning approach. Read books, attend workshops, take courses, and seek knowledge actively.
- Accept Challenges: View challenges as opportunities to grow rather than insurmountable obstacles.
- Learn from Criticism: Use constructive criticism as a tool for improvement.
// Dive Deeper – How to achieve a growth mindset…
A growth mindset is the belief that one’s abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, and the cultivation of new skills and knowledge. Those who adopt a growth mindset are more likely to reach higher levels of achievement, as they view challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles. They are more resilient and adaptable in the face of difficulties and setbacks.
Educate Yourself Continuously:
- Overview: Continuous education involves consistently seeking new knowledge and skills throughout one’s life, to adapt to the ever-changing world and to personal and professional development needs.
- Implementation: Dedicate a certain amount of time each day or week to learn something new. This could include reading books, attending workshops, participating in webinars, or taking online courses.
- Benefits: Continual learning helps in staying abreast with the latest industry trends, enhances skills, improves problem-solving abilities, and boosts confidence.
Accept Challenges:
- Overview: Accepting challenges means viewing difficulties and obstacles as opportunities to grow and improve, rather than seeing them as insurmountable barriers.
- Implementation: When faced with a challenge, approach it with a positive and open mindset. Break the challenge into manageable steps and tackle each one systematically. Seek advice or help when needed.
- Benefits: Facing and overcoming challenges enhance problem-solving skills, build resilience, and foster a sense of achievement and self-efficacy.
Learn from Criticism:
- Overview: Constructive criticism provides insights into areas of improvement. Learning from criticism means actively using the feedback to better oneself or one’s work.
- Implementation: When receiving criticism, listen actively and openly, without becoming defensive. Reflect on the feedback objectively and decide on the steps needed for improvement. Seek clarification if the feedback is unclear.
- Benefits: Constructive feedback provides valuable perspectives that can lead to improved performance, better decision-making, and enhanced skills.
Sustaining the Growth Mindset:
- Reflect Regularly: Regular reflection on one’s learning and experiences helps in gaining insights and reinforcing the growth mindset.
- Set Learning Goals: Establish clear and achievable learning objectives to guide one’s learning journey and measure progress.
- Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate small achievements and progress along the way to stay motivated.
Embracing a growth mindset is pivotal for anyone aiming for massive growth and success. By continuously educating oneself, accepting and overcoming challenges, and learning from criticism, one can develop resilience, adaptability, and a continuous learning habit that are the cornerstones of a growth mindset. This approach fosters a cycle of learning and growth that fuels further development and achievements.
2. Cultivate Resilience:
- Summary // How to Achieve:

In the world of business, it is a crucial trait as it enables individuals to navigate through challenges, recover from setbacks, and learn from failures. Cultivating resilience is an ongoing process that involves developing emotional intelligence and building a robust support network.
Develop Emotional Intelligence:
- Overview: Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions and the emotions of others. It involves self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
- Implementation: Enhance EI by practicing mindfulness, reflecting on emotional responses, and developing empathetic listening skills. Regularly assess emotional reactions and learn to respond, rather than react, to situations.
- Benefits: High emotional intelligence leads to better decision-making, improved relationship management, increased self-awareness, and greater adaptability. It allows for more effective navigation through business uncertainties and stronger interpersonal relationships.
Build a Support Network:
- Overview: A support network consists of individuals, groups, or mentors who provide advice, encouragement, and perspective in both professional and personal contexts.
- Implementation: Actively seek and join communities or groups that align with your values and goals. Network with peers, mentors, and professionals in your field. Develop relationships with individuals who can offer support, guidance, and constructive feedback.
- Benefits: A strong support network offers diverse perspectives, emotional support, and valuable insights. It provides a sense of belonging and can be a source of inspiration and motivation during challenging times.
Sustaining Resilience:
- Maintain a Positive Outlook: Develop the habit of looking for the silver lining in every situation and focus on solutions rather than problems. Positivity contributes to resilience by fostering hope and optimism.
- Learn from Failures: View every setback as a learning opportunity. Reflect on what went wrong and how to improve, and then move forward with newfound knowledge.
- Practice Self-Care: Regularly engage in activities that maintain and enhance well-being, like exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep, to build resilience over time.
Cultivating resilience is integral to achieving lasting success in the volatile and uncertain landscape of business. By developing emotional intelligence and building a supportive network, individuals can effectively manage stress, overcome challenges, and thrive in their professional journey. A resilient mindset, combined with a continual learning approach, enables individuals to turn adversities into opportunities for growth and development.

How to Achieve Clear Goals and Vision:
Define Your Purpose:

Your purpose is the ‘why’ behind what you do—it’s the reason for being and the deeper meaning behind your efforts. It provides motivation, direction, and a sense of fulfillment. - Implementation:

Identify the key outcomes needed to realize your vision. Break these down into smaller tasks and set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Regularly review and adjust your goals as needed. - Benefits:
This approach allows for incremental progress, reducing overwhelm, and providing a clearer path to achieving the overarching vision. It enables more effective resource allocation, improves focus, and offers opportunities for celebrating small wins along the way.
Strategizing and Monitoring Progress:
- Create Action Plans:
Develop detailed plans outlining the steps required to achieve each goal. Include timelines, resources needed, and potential obstacles and solutions. Regularly review and adjust the plans as you progress. - Monitor and Evaluate:
Regularly assess your progress towards your goals. Celebrate the achievements, no matter how small they seem, and analyze and learn from the setbacks. Adjust your goals and action plans as needed, based on the feedback and the learning acquired along the journey. - Stay Flexible and Adaptive:
The path to achieving your vision will likely have unexpected twists and turns. Maintaining flexibility and being willing to adapt your goals and strategies as you learn and grow are crucial in navigating through uncertainties.
Establishing a clear vision anchored by a well-defined purpose and breaking down this vision into actionable, manageable goals are pivotal steps in achieving lasting success and continuous growth. This systematic and thoughtful approach to goal setting and vision creation not only provides direction and motivation but also promotes learning, adaptability, and resilience in the ever-evolving journey of personal and professional development.

Identify and challenge any negative beliefs or thoughts you have. Ask yourself whether they are true, whether they are the worst-case scenario, and how you can view them more positively. Develop affirmations and positive statements to counteract negative thoughts. - Benefits:
Reframing negative thoughts can enhance self-esteem, decision-making, and overall mental well-being. It can reduce anxiety and depressive thoughts and lead to a more balanced, resilient mindset.
Encourage a Positive Environment:
- Surround Yourself with Positivity:
Engage with positive, supportive people and consume uplifting and constructive content. The environment and the company you keep play a significant role in shaping your mindset and attitudes. - Visualize Success:

So once you have your final idea and the right mindset, it is time to build out your products and/or services in relationship to your new business.
This is going to look different for everyone, but you will need a digital foundation or digital home for your business. You will want to do this on a website, with a blog, and/or Instagram. This will be the single most important thing you do for your business. I personally have always had a website for my business, and I have dabbled with blogging since I was a teenager, but I didn’t know the power behind the blog posts until the last 2-3 years.
Creating blog posts was part of my content strategy from day 1, but I thought my YouTube videos were the most important piece of the puzzle in 2020. But now I think all of the platforms I created content on, coupled with my syndication process, were the true reason why I was able to go from $300k grossed in 2019 my pre-content creation method to $900k in 2022 and $800k in 2021. In the last few months, my content has averaged over 1M impressions and views. If you want access to my full content strategy, you can find that here.
