How blogging changed my life as a REALTOR®.

We don’t hear many industry professionals talk about blogging anymore. It lacks instant gratification, and let’s face it, it isn’t very sexy. For the last few years, we have all been focused on the shiniest of platforms, whether you would consider that to be Instagram or TikTok, or back in the day, Facebook.

There are many reasons for this, but what I keep coming back to is that entrepreneurs, business owners, and realtors, don’t understand branding when it comes to Google, discoverability, SEO, blogging, content creation, content strategy, and all the in-betweens. So today, I want to break it down for you. I want to break it down for you in a way that leads you to no longer be able to ignore blogging. It really can be the answer to all of your professional problems. Well, blogging and systems, that is.

First, let’s put you in the shoes of your dream client or ideal audience. Stick with me, even if I am not describing your dream client. You will get your turn. It is 4 AM and they are dying to learn more about this city they overheard a couple talking about over their Sunday morning coffee in that cute coffee shop within walking distance of their 1-bedroom condo on the 22nd floor.

At 4 AM, where is she going to find the answers? Her body pillow is no longer doing the job of supporting her growing belly, and she just can’t fall back asleep. So she sneaks out of bed, slips on her fuzzy slippers, and wobbles to the couch. She pulls out her iPad, which has fallen between the couch cushions, and she snuggles under a cozy blanket. She finds her way to Google, and she types in that brand-new city name. She sees links and videos.

She is going to choose the learning style that best fits her mood and situation, and when the sun starts peeking through her window, she is lost down a rabbit hole. She finds herself a new friend: this lady who has written hundreds of blog posts about this city and recorded hundreds of videos including some vlogs, and now she is debating what time is too early to give this lady a call because there is this perfect 3 bedroom one story home on half an acre with a wrap-around porch and a baby swing already installed in one of the oak trees scattered around the front yard that is calling her name. Maybe her husband can play hooky, and they check it out.

This situation happens for me, in my business Jo & Co., more than I could possibly know. Not everyone is going to have the stars align so that I can meet their needs right away, but millions of people are seeing my content on the front page of Google each month. This is only possible through content creation, and the only way I am able to compete with big corporations is by creating hyper-local hyper-personal content about my city and neighborhoods.

Now, I know this situation is for realtors and those realtors that focus on relocation, but this execution and strategy can be drafted and customized to fit any ideal client, and any creator (that’s you), in any industry. We want people to find us, so we must create what they need so that we can meet their needs. By doing this, we create trust, which will lead to accomplishing our goals. And what people need is information. They need answers to their questions. We can easily do this through blogging, and we can easily do this with YouTube videos. We will be their resource, and we will be rewarded.

The most amazing thing about having a blog (and website), is that it creates a home for all of your content. You can syndicate your social media posts, your YouTube videos, and all of your thoughts onto a website with blogging capabilities. The possibilities really are limitless.

So what’s next? You learn this complete strategy, and you work on execution.
