How to figure out Instagram.

Short of going viral, It is hard to reach your target audience when you are new on Instagram. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you. The Instagram algorithm has undergone numerous changes since its inception in 2010. The most significant change to the algorithm was made in 2016 when Instagram moved away from the chronological feed to one based on user engagement. This was a pivotal moment, and minor tweaks have been made weekly ever since.

Yes, you can slowly grow your audience by showing up, but you won’t grow substantially until you go viral. Going viral allows you to reach the masses and the odds of getting in front of your ideal client are high.

Let’s do some math. Let’s say you have this goal of acquiring 100,000 users and for simplicity’s sake, let’s assume that is how many people that are your ideal client on Instagram. That is .001% of all Instagram accounts, meaning 1 in 10,000 people are your ideal client. So for every 10,000 people you reach with one reel, one might be ideal and once nurtured, a loyal follower. This math, easily illustrates how going viral can quickly expose you to the masses and increase your chances of finding your ideal client.

But going viral is only one part of the puzzle. You must be able to convert (get the viewer to follow you) the viewer. Most viewers are going to visit your profile before following your account. So how do you get them to follow? You must have a great bio and appealing feed that speaks to them. So what this really means is that your content must be made for them.

So the second piece of the puzzle is creating content that talks to your ideal client. And before you can talk to your ideal client, you must define her. This is the most basic and important thing you can do for your account and reach. So how do you define your ideal client? Well, let’s first name this task. What we are defining is our avatar. The easiest way to define our avatar is to answer these questions. The questions below are broken down into categories.

// What is a client avatar? It is a semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer, including key demographics, psychographics, behavior, and preferences. Creating an avatar allows you to focus your marketing efforts, create more targeted content, and build a stronger brand that resonates with your audience.

31. What language or jargon do they use?

Answering these questions will help you form a well-rounded client avatar, enabling you to target your marketing, content, and product development more effectively. And do not forget to name her. My avatar’s name is Emily.

It is important to note, that we cannot rely on the algorithm to bring us our ideal client without going viral. Because if the algorithm was as good as one wishes, all of our reels would reach everyone who would enjoy it. And we all know, that isn’t the case.

By creating content for your avatar, the potential for your content to reach her increases. Once it reaches her, the chances of her following your account increase significantly.

I really do think, that creating content for “one person” by defining that “one person” via these avatar-defining questions are the first two pieces of the puzzle when it comes to going viral on Instagram with the goal in mind to find your ideal audience and client.
